About AnesthesiaWatch
Anesthesiology news, research, guidelines, trials and podcasts appear across dozens of journals, registries and societies. AnesthesiaWatch gathers them into one daily edition, sorted by subspecialty, so you can see what changed and follow what matters to you. Every item links to its original source. Summaries give context; the source is where to check the details.
How it is made
- Collect. Each morning, automated searches pull new articles from PubMed for the core anesthesia, pain and critical care journals, plus anesthesia-indexed papers in major general journals. They also pull new phase 2–4 trials from ClinicalTrials.gov and the latest podcast episodes from public feeds.
- Sort. Duplicates are removed by PMID, DOI and title. Topics come from fixed keyword rules. Study design labels come from PubMed publication types, or from the design the abstract itself states. The AI never assigns them.
- Summarize. An AI model writes the headline, summary, "why it matters" and limitation from the title and abstract only.
- Verify. Every number in a summary must appear in the source, or the item is held. A second, independent AI pass re-reads the summary against the abstract and holds anything unsupported. Held items go to an editor's review queue and are never published automatically.
- Rank. The Top 5 is chosen by the rubric below, then frozen into the day's archive.
Summaries are published automatically and are not individually reviewed by a physician before they appear. An "Editor reviewed" label appears on the Top 5 only on days an editor actually read it against the sources.
Top 5 rubric
- Only items that passed verification, report results, and name a limitation are eligible.
- Study design: guidelines, randomized trials and meta-analyses rank above observational work. Commentary, laboratory and research-methods papers are not eligible.
- Journal: a small bonus for core anesthesia, critical care and general medical journals.
- Recency: a bonus for items first indexed in the last 3 days.
- Breadth: at most 2 picks from any one topic, so the Top 5 spans the specialty.
What we never do
- Invent findings, statistics, references, guidelines, meeting dates or program data. A missing value stays blank.
- Republish paywalled text. We link to the source and write original summaries from public abstracts.
- Give medical advice. AnesthesiaWatch is an information resource for clinicians and trainees. Patients should discuss care decisions with their clinical team.
Corrections
Every item has a "Report a correction" link, or email corrections@anesthesiawatch.com. Corrections are reviewed and fixed or removed, usually within a day.
Independence
AnesthesiaWatch is independent of any hospital, society or company. No sponsor influences which items appear or how they are ranked.
